Charlestown
Charlestown is a remarkably well preserved Georgian harbour village near St Austell. Its working tall ships and unspoiled dockside have made it a favourite filming location, most famously for Poldark. There is also the Shipwreck Treasure Museum and a handful of coastal walks towards Carlyon Bay, and the village gives a real sense of stepping back into the eighteenth century.
I have one video here so far, about where Poldark was filmed in Cornwall.
When you are ready to plan a visit, my other website, Best In Cornwall, has guides covering parking, beaches, walks, where to eat and where to stay. Here are the ones for Charlestown, covering parking and getting there, things to do, eating, staying and history.
