St Austell
St Austell is the largest town in mid Cornwall, its landscape still shaped by the china clay industry that built its fortune, most visibly in the white spoil heaps known locally as the Cornish Alps. It is a practical base for visiting the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, with sandy beaches at Carlyon Bay and Porthpean close by.
My video here is of the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
When you are ready to plan a visit, my other website, Best In Cornwall, has guides covering parking, beaches, walks, where to eat and where to stay. Here are the ones for St Austell, covering parking and getting there, things to do, eating, staying and history.
