See Who Visits Our Garden After Dark

I started noticing some large holes appearing in the garden here in Cornwall and wanted to find out what was going on. To solve the mystery, I bought a couple of night vision trail cameras, set them up, and waited to see who might be responsible.

The first night produced nothing, but on the second night I was amazed to see the range of wildlife that arrived for their late night buffet. Badgers, foxes, and even a small field mouse all turned up, exploring the garden and helping themselves to the food I had left out. Although I did not capture any footage of the badgers or foxes actually digging, I am fairly sure the badgers were responsible for the holes, as they are known for this behaviour and the holes were quite deep.

I ran the trail cameras for several nights and captured some great footage, which I will be posting to my YouTube channel soon. At first, I left out general food scraps because I did not know which animals were visiting. Once I realised we had badgers and foxes, I did some research and started putting out more suitable food for them.

I believe there might be a badger sett at the top of the garden, so this year I plan to set the cameras up in a different location to see if I can film them emerging, if they are indeed there.

We have a couple of acres of land, and in one corner there are several rabbit warrens. In another, I am fairly convinced there is a fox den, so it would not surprise me if the badgers have made their sett on the opposite side.

I am writing this in April 2022, and this particular video was filmed back in August 2021. With luck, I will get some more great footage this year and continue documenting the fascinating wildlife that visits our garden after dark.
