A Winter Walk Around Penrose And Loe Bar, Cornwall, UK

I parked at the Penrose car park and made my way through the beautiful National Trust grounds of Penrose. The walk begins gently, following well-kept paths through woodland and open fields before revealing views across The Loe, which is Cornwall’s largest freshwater lake. The still surface of the water reflects the surrounding trees, and even on a windy winter’s day, the landscape feels peaceful.

Eventually, the path opens out onto Loe Bar Beach. The contrast between the calm of The Loe and the power of the sea is striking. The weather was bright but extremely windy, which is why I decided to remove the ambient sound from the video. Even so, the atmosphere of the place comes across clearly, with waves breaking against the shingle and the wind carrying spray across the sand.

The walk from Penrose to Loe Bar Beach is beautiful at any time of the year, and I can highly recommend it. It combines woodland, lakeside views, and open coastline in a way that feels distinctly Cornish.

A word of caution though: Loe Bar Beach is not a safe place to swim. Over the years, several people have drowned here due to strong currents, heavy surf, and the steep, unstable shingle bank. It is always best to admire the beach from the shore and save swimming for one of Cornwall’s many safer spots.
