Where Is Poldark Filmed In Cornwall?

Poldark is an extremely popular British period drama based on Winston Graham’s Poldark novels, which mainly takes place outdoors in some breathtaking locations across Cornwall, including:

Charlestown

Charlestown near St Austell is where most of the harbour scenes are shot and has doubled as Truro and Falmouth. Charlestown harbour was used in the 1970’s and most recent BBC version of Poldark.

Porthgwarra

Porthgwarra is a beautiful location which was used for the famous scene where Poldark was skinny dipping in the sea.

Bodmin Moor & St Breward

Bodmin Moor is home to Ross Poldark’s home in the series – Nampara.

The actual home they used in the series is set in a fairly remote location near St Breward, Bodmin Moor.

Botallack to Levant

Unsurprisingly the rich mining heritage features heavily in the Poldark series.

Levant Mine served as the location for the fictional Tressiders Rolling Mill while Owles and Crowns mines near Botallack was the location for Ross’s Wheal Leisure mine.

Padstow

View of the Camel Estuary, Tregirls Beach and Porthcothan were all used as locations for the fictional Nampara Cove in the series.

St Agnes Head

This area was used as the location of Nampara Valley which was part of Poldark’s family estate.

Nearby Perranporth was the home of Poldark writer Winston Graham.

Gunwalloe

Gunwalloe was used as a location to film the night-time smuggling scenes.

Porthcothan

Porthcothan near Newquay was used as part of the Poldark family’s Nampara Estate.

Holywell Bay

This was owned by the Warleggans and Gull Rock served as a backdrop for many coastel scenes in series two.

Porthcurno

Porthcurno also played part of Nampara Cove in the series.

Kynance Cove

The stunningly beautiful Kynance Cove also served as part of Poldark’s Nampara Estate.

Predannack Wollas, The Lizard

Many of Poldark’s coastal horse riding scenes were filmed here.

Poldark Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Poldark live in Cornwall?

Nampara is the name of Poldarks family estate which is of course fictional but the external shots of Ross Poldarks family home were filmed at a house which does exist in St Breward, Bodmin Moor.

Can you visit where Poldark was filmed in Cornwall?

Yes, you certainly can. See above. However the ‘real’ Nampara is a privately owned farmhouse so please be respectful if you decide to pay it a visit. I believe you can only really see it from a distance.
