Dolphins Everywhere in St Ives Bay, Cornwall, UK

At the moment, St Ives Bay is teeming with mackerel, attracting large pods of dolphins and even predators such as humpback whales. The sea has been full of movement, with birds circling above and flashes of silver breaking the surface as the dolphins chase the fish.

I have been out frequently to capture the action, filming these energetic animals as they hunt and move through the bay. Some of the pods are large, stretching across wide areas of water, while others appear briefly before diving deep again. Each encounter feels different, but always exciting, and the scale of activity this season has been remarkable.

It is a reminder of how rich Cornwall’s marine environment can be when conditions are right. Watching dolphins and whales feeding close to shore is something truly special, and St Ives Bay continues to be one of the best places in the county to witness it.
