Storm Arwen Batters St Ives, Cornwall, UK

On 27 November 2021, Storm Arwen swept across the UK, and I headed down to St Ives to witness the storm in action. The winds were some of the strongest I’ve experienced in Cornwall, tearing through the town and across the beaches, though I’ve seen even bigger waves in previous storms at St Ives.

Following my usual circuit around the harbour and coastline, I captured the dramatic interplay of wind, waves, and light. The sea was frothy and restless, with waves crashing against the rocks and swirling through the harbour. The air was filled with salt spray, and every gust of wind brought a new burst of energy from the sea.

Despite the intensity of the storm, the views were breathtaking, a vivid reminder of Cornwall’s wild, ever-changing coastal beauty. The footage conveys the raw energy of the Atlantic and shows how even familiar spots like St Ives can be transformed under the power of a storm.

It’s always fascinating to see how quickly the weather can change here. Within minutes, the light shifted from dark clouds to sudden brightness, the waves reflecting every colour of the sea. Storm Arwen might not have brought the biggest swells, but the atmosphere and energy were unforgettable.
