With my car currently out of action, I decided to dust off the bike and make the most of the newly reopened cycle path between Marazion and Penzance. Despite the blustery weather and an eventual downpour that brought the ride to an abrupt, hail-filled end, I managed to capture this video before the storm rolled in.
The route itself is as scenic as ever, following the coast with sweeping views across Mount’s Bay towards St Michael’s Mount. It’s an easy and enjoyable ride that perfectly blends exercise with some of the best coastal scenery in West Cornwall.
On the way back, I came across several coastguard and police vehicles gathered near the Penzance bus station. The beach area had been cordoned off after a piece of ordnance was discovered nearby. Thankfully, it later turned out to be harmless, but it certainly caused a bit of excitement at the end of the ride.
Even with the wild Cornish weather doing its best to soak me through, the Marazion to Penzance cycle path remains one of my favourite local routes, a perfect mix of fresh air, sea views, and that unmistakable Cornish character.
