This is the first in my Drive and Explore video series, where I jump in the car to film my journeys while stopping off to explore some of Cornwall’s most interesting and picturesque places.
This particular video was filmed at the start of winter, towards the end of December 2020. I began in St Ives, one of Cornwall’s best loved holiday destinations, before heading out on foot to climb Little Trevalgan. From there, I crossed the road to Rosewall Hill, which sits directly opposite. Both walks offer incredible views, though on this day the experience was made a little more dramatic by Storm Bella. The wind was fierce, and a passing hail shower left me soaked but smiling.
After drying off, I continued towards Zennor, a tiny coastal village with centuries of history and a wonderfully remote feel. From there, I followed the winding country roads past the Gurnard’s Head pub, well known for its distinctive yellow exterior and warm welcome. The route carried me on through Morvah, Botallack and St Just before reaching my final stop at Cape Cornwall.
The walk around Cape Cornwall was the perfect way to end the trip. The storm was still raging, the Atlantic was alive with energy, and the view was spectacular. Days like this show why I love filming around Cornwall, whatever the weather.
