I always enjoy walking around Godrevy, and I like to finish the visit with a stop at Mutton Cove to check on the seal colony. The walk along the cliffs offers wonderful views of the coastline, and it is one of those places where there is always something happening, from the sound of the sea to the movement of seabirds riding the wind.
On a cold and blustery day in January 2024, the seals were in residence, giving me the chance to spend some time filming these fascinating animals in their natural coastal habitat. From the cliff top viewpoint, dozens of seals could be seen resting on the beach below, occasionally shuffling towards the water or calling out to one another.
The contrast between the calm of the cove and the rougher sea beyond made the scene even more striking. Watching the seals, it is easy to forget the weather entirely as they seem perfectly at home no matter how windy or cold it gets. Mutton Cove remains one of the best places in Cornwall to see grey seals in the wild, and each visit offers something new to appreciate
