The Seals Of Mousehole, Cornwall, UK

Over July and August 2023, I spent several weeks trying to capture footage of the rare Risso’s Dolphins that had been visiting Mounts Bay for a few weeks before mysteriously vanishing.

Watching these distinctive, grey-speckled dolphins as they surfaced and played in the bay was a real treat, a reminder of just how special Cornwall’s waters can be when it comes to wildlife encounters.

In the quieter moments between their appearances, I turned my camera to the grey seal colony around St Clement’s Isle, just off Mousehole Harbour. These playful seals offered plenty of action of their own, lounging on the rocks, diving into the surf, or popping up curiously to inspect passing boats.

Spending time here was a perfect counterpoint to the fleeting appearances of the dolphins, highlighting the rich variety of marine life that thrives along the Cornish coast.

These weeks of filming gave me some truly memorable moments, both the rare, unexpected sightings and the more familiar, yet equally captivating, wildlife that surrounds Mousehole and Mounts Bay.
