High tide combined with strong winds always makes Penzance Promenade an entertaining spectacle. Waves crash relentlessly over the sea walls, and it’s surprising how many onlookers end up getting a thorough soaking in the process.

This footage was captured during a local walk along the promenade, showcasing the raw power of the Cornish coast and the dramatic energy that storms like Darcy bring to the bay. The sea was restless, constantly shifting shades of grey and green as each new wave rolled in from Mount’s Bay.

Every few minutes, a larger swell would rise up and crash directly into the defences, throwing spray high across the pavement. The air was thick with saltwater mist, and the sound of the waves carried down the entire length of the seafront. Even after years of filming in all kinds of conditions, Penzance on a stormy day never loses its appeal.

The combination of tide, wind, and Atlantic swell always makes this stretch of coast worth watching, and Storm Darcy was no exception, full of energy, movement, and that unmistakable Cornish atmosphere.
